Customer choice, distributed generation, demand management, power reliability, time-of-use tariffs, performance-based rates, aging equipment, and aging workforce all point to the same conclusion: significant changes in distribution infrastructure and grid complexity are necessary. For this reason, there is an immediate need for utilities to begin transitioning from their current “1950s or older” configuration to a “Smart Grid” designed for the 21st century. The significant change is, however, much more than a technological upgrade; it is a major shift in the utility business. How does a utility get started on building their grid of the future?
This workshop will provide a review of the CEATI’s project 5057 “Electric Distribution Utility Roadmap phase 2”, describing its key learnings and messages. The workshop will share a common understanding of a Smart Grid Vision, address what is required to help people move off the Status Quo, and start the building a roadmap. Moreover, workshop participants will experience “hands-on” exercises on assessing their own utility’s readiness, action planning and communication planning.
This workshop will appeal to utility executives, managers, engineers, technicians, and change management professionals involved in leading a major transformation of their electric distribution business.
